We did not expect to spend Artists at Play’s 10th anniversary season sidelined by a global pandemic.

But we did not let the last 20 months of uncertainty stop us from fulfilling our mission of presenting stories that explore the diverse Asian American experience:

  • Worked with four emerging Asian American playwrights through our New Play Development program, and brought together directors and actors to present online readings.
  • Expanded our Theatre for Young Audiences programming to include two digital productions.
  • Launched the AAP Podcast and released eight episodes that explore the history and culture of Artists at Play and Asian American theatre.
  • Maintained our commitment to supporting underserved artists by paying actors, writers and directors.

Artists at Play continued to keep our work accessible by offering all of our online programming free of charge, and providing closed captions or live transcriptions of performances when possible. As we navigate the challenging times of the pandemic, and what it means to create theatre in a changing landscape, investing in our artistic collaborators, audiences and community remains a priority.

Supporters like you help ensure we have the resources available to explore the varied experiences of the Asian American community and serve our diverse audience. We hope you’ll make a year-end tax-deductible donation so Artists at Play can further our work in 2022.

In addition to producing the world premiere of This Is Not a True Story by Preston Choi and directed by Reena Dutt, continuing our New Play Development programming, and expanding our Theatre for Young Audiences, we will build upon the online and digital offerings created during the pandemic.

Since our founding in 2011, Artists at Play has been telling stories that demonstrate the humanity and complexity of the Asian American community. We are honored that you believe in our mission and programming. Thank you for being our partners in creating inclusive theatre in Los Angeles.

Thank you,
Julia, Stefanie, Marie, Nicholas, Katherine & Sandy
